I aim to provide honest, independent, and thoughtful opinions on board games for the benefit of my audience. To maintain transparency and integrity, I follow the principles outlined below.
Review Copies and Gifts
Many of the games I review are provided by publishers as complimentary review copies. I do not accept review copies on the condition of a positive review. If I receive a game from a publisher, I will always disclose this clearly at the end of the review.
I never sell review copies, so I do not benefit from them directly in any financial sense.
In the case of prototypes or early production copies, I usually return them to the publisher or send them to the next reviewer on the publisher’s list.
In the case when the publisher wants me to keep the free review copy, I sometimes keep it when I like the game, but more often than not, I raffle it off to raise money for charity or give it to friends or family.
Occasionally, I may receive promotional materials, merchandise, or small gifts. I will disclose everything that may reasonably be seen to influence my opinion.
No Paid Articles
I do not accept payment for reviews, previews, thought pieces, or any other form of coverage. All articles I produce are independent and based solely on my own opinions and experiences. I do not publish sponsored posts, paid promotions, or advertiser-influenced articles.
Professional Work
I have occasionally undertaken paid work for board game publishers. I do not review games I have worked on professionally, but I sometimes review games from a publisher I have done paid work for, but I will disclose when that is the case.
Here is a list of publishers I have done professional work for, what work I have done and when:
- Asmodee: demonstrator at a local board game cafe in 2025, and at UK Games Expo 2023, 2024 and 2025.
- Bright Eye Games: translator for Battle Dentale, Ponzi Scheme, Sumo and Tokkuri Taking in 2024.
- Fog of Love: demonstrator at Essen Spiel 2019.
- Julibert: translator for We Can Play in 2023/24.
- Spielworxx: translator for EPOS: A Gentes Game in 2024/25.
- Stop, Drop & Roll: translator for Earth Rising in 2022.
Affiliate Links and Advertisements
Affiliate links and advertisements are clearly separated from the rest of the site’s articles and clearly marked with the word “Advert”.
Some of these affiliate links or advertisements may take you to a retailer or publisher, and if you purchase a game using one of these links, I may receive a small commission at no extra cost to you.
Current and previous affiliate link partners and advertisers featured on the Tabletop Games Blog website are as follows:
Additionally, there are Google ads on the website, but I have very limited control over the companies and products featured in these.
AI
I will never knowingly review games that have used generative AI tools trained on copyrighted work.
If a publisher attempts to hide the use of such AI and I find out later, the publisher will be added to a permanent blacklist and barred from having any of their games reviewed by me in the future.
Independence and Integrity
My opinions are my own and reflect my genuine experiences with the games I review. My other articles are also my honest and genuine opinion. I will not allow personal relationships, gifts, or outside influence to affect the honesty of my articles.
If I believe a game has serious flaws or limitations, I will say so, even if it was provided for free. Likewise, if a game I purchased myself impresses me, I will happily praise it.
Corrections and Accountability
If I make a factual error in an article or overlook a relevant disclosure, I welcome feedback and will correct the oversight as soon as possible.
